With the current cold weather many homeowners are turning their thoughts to loft insulation. The tried and tested method is to lay insulation material between the ceiling joists usually around 270mm of fibre insulation.

One method to avoid is spray foam which is sprayed between and over the rafters in the loft , filling all the little gaps with a polyurethane based material. This can cause problems as it can cut off ventilation and cause condensation resulting in damp, mould and potential lung problems for the occupiers.

In addition, mortgage providers may well refuse to lend on properties with spray foam insulation. If this is the case then a specialist company will need to be called in to remove the insulation to enable a sale to proceed.
